"For the past twenty-five years, Radiation Oncology Associates has been fulfilling its vision of providing the highest quality of cancer care to the people of New Mexico and the surrounding southwest region."

About Us Our Journey

Radiation Oncology Associates (ROA) is the largest and oldest radiation oncology physician group in New Mexico. In 1980, Dr. Kutub Khan founded ROA with a vision of providing excellent cancer treatment methods in a private practice setting to patients in the greater Albuquerque area.

Dr. Khan came to the University of New Mexico (UNM) from Ohio State University in 1977 and soon was made Professor of Radiation Oncology. After establishing an impeccable reputation at the UNM Cancer Treatment Center, the opportunity arose for him to start a private radiation oncology practice of his own design at the old St. Joseph Hospital in downtown Albuquerque (now Lovelace Medical Center Downtown).

Over the past quarter century ROA has grown from one to 11 radiation oncology physicians, staffing five radiation oncology care centers in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces. Under Dr. Khan's leadership, ROA has come full circle as our physicians now staff the Radiation Oncology Department at the UNM Cancer Research Treatment Center. ROA's eleven physicians currently treat up to 150 patients per day with life-saving radiation therapy.

ROA has the largest radioactive implant treatment program in New Mexico. We have provided life -saving implant procedures to over 3,000 patients since 1980, and we treat up to 150 patients with implants per year. We have implanted over 1,500 prostate cancer patients with outpatient (one-day) prostate implant procedures.

We are dedicated to ongoing research and advances in the treatment of cancer. Since 1995, we have participated in National Cancer Institute (NCI) clinical trials. The NCI looks at validating newer and better ways of curing cancer with radiation and chemotherapy, and we enroll up to 30 patients per year in NCI clinical trials.

For the past twenty-six years, Radiation Oncology Associates has been fulfilling its vision of providing the highest quality of cancer care to the people of New Mexico and the surrounding southwest region. With our team of doctors and an expansive team of supportive experts, we are dedicated to participating in research, applying the latest technology, and most importantly, to the hundreds of courageous individuals that we serve, every single day.
