Treatment Options Ultrasound Localization of the Prostate

The treatment of prostate cancer has progressed to the point of precise targeting of the tumor while attempting to spare normal tissue. Treatment with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT,discussed elsewhere) and the use of CT scans for treatment planning has become standard.

To further aid in the precision of treatment we are utilizing ultrasound to allow us to monitor the anatomy of the patient on a daily basis. With this knowledge we can make small adjustments in the position of the patient to account for small changes in the location of their anatomy. The use of this technique will improve our treatment of the cancer, while reducing the amount of radiation received by the surrounding normal tissue.
